About the Role:
We are looking for a Bioinformatician - Data Curator who will help us create a community data resource containing large collections of single-cell data in the count matrix format. Funded by Chan Zuckerberg Initiative this project will be based on the CELLxGENE Discover tool (also funded by CZI), which aims to support scalable and accessible visualisation of the individual single-cell datasets. CELLxGENE is now widely adopted by the research community and is currently being used by many research groups to visualise their single cell data. This effort will be directed at real-time curation of datasets generated by the Cellular Genetics Programme of the Sanger Institute, which has been a major contributor to this effort and inspired product directions. This position is for a 18 month fixed term contract with possibility of extension.
You will be responsible for:
This role will be focused on organising and curating datasets currently generated at Sanger Institute, as well as other public resources such as Cambridge Cell Atlas and CZI SEED Networks-generated integrated atlases to encourage interoperability and visualisation of the data count matrices.
About You:
Driven bioinformatician or data scientist with academic experience. You will be asked to analyse papers, search various sources of information, and efficiently curate single cell datasets using Jupyter notebooks.
About Us:
Cellular Genetics Informatics team provides efficient access to cutting-edge analysis methods, environments and pipelines for Cellular Genetics programme, which leads and is involved in a number of world-class research initiatives. We provide informatics support for the Human Cell Atlas, Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Initiative and Human BioMolecular Atlas Program. We work with large amounts of single-cell RNA sequencing and microscopy imaging data.
Essential Skills:
Degree in Bioinformatics or related fields or equivalent experience
Programming experience in Unix shell and Python or R
Excellent interpersonal skills
Attention to detail
Data curation/annotation experience, or significant understanding
Develop collaborative working relationships with collaborators and other team members
