From 19 to 21 October, the Spanish School of Labour and Social Security Inspection hosted a meeting promoted by the European Labour Authority, which brought together eighty national experts specialised in the fight against transnational fraud.

Over the three days, the experts, who come from national inspection authorities in twenty-five European countries, analysed the way in which concerted or joint inspections are carried out between several Member States, with the aim of improving procedures and increasing the effectiveness of these actions.

The European Labour Authority is a European agency set up in 2019 to strengthen compliance with EU legislation on labour mobility. One of the main functions of the Authority is the coordination of actions carried out jointly by labour inspectorates from different countries.

At the presentation of this meeting, the Head of the Inspection Area of the European Labour Authority, Robertas Lukasevicius, highlighted the role of the Authority in helping States to cooperate more effectively against undeclared work and transnational fraud. She also recalled that the sectors in which the Authority has prioritised its activity so far are seasonal agricultural work and road transport, and announced that next year it will focus its attention on the construction sector.

For her part, the Director of the State Labour and Social Security Inspectorate, Carmen Collado, stressed that the Spanish Inspectorate is immersed in an important process of transformation, in which institutional strengthening, reinforcement of human resources and intensive use of technology as a way of improving the effectiveness of inspection activity are of particular importance

With all of this, the Spanish Inspectorate is prepared to face the challenges presented by the world of work these days, such as the problem of false self-employed workers, work in the framework of digital platforms or the difficulties associated with the fight against international fraud.

Other representatives of the State Agency also took part in the programme of this conference: the Director of the School, Sonsoles Gutiérrez de la Peña, the team of the Special Coordination Unit on the Fight against Transnational Labour Fraud and Inspector Isabel Rojo Torres, who presented the experience obtained in an inspection action carried out jointly with the French Labour Inspectorate.
